Geek Estate’s post recently queried how the UK portals were positioning themselves with reference to TV adverts. This got me thinking and led to a conclusion I wish to discuss; is anyone really targeting the younger generation?
Facebook says that around 1.7 billion people on earth are between 15 and 30 years old with an average of 28 years old. In marketing speak these people are known as generation Y or the Millennial generation.
Much has been written about this generation and I would invite you to read WOMMA research. The relevance for any industry and especially the property industry is ‘understanding’ this generation and understanding how to connect and interact with them. You cannot afford to ignore them and you won’t succeed without them writes WOMMA.
One of the key findings from this research is the majority of Millennials use up to six sources of information to help make a decision on purchasing.
The point follows that with so much informaiton flying around as a brand you need to know how to communicate with them and then ensure you are in the right place when it matters. This applies to all in the property industry.
For many, this generation has absorbed technology at such a pace that it has changed the potential relationship they have a with a brand and these brands are now playing catch up. Indeed, how will you reach them, how will you satisfy them? Honestly, think for a minute!
Some of my other work brings me into contact with eco products and here the shinning stars in the industry are the Millennials who know their customers and know how to reach them. It is fun and exciting to watch.
I just don’t see this happening in the property industry.
The research shows that Millennials are open to new experiences and will be excited by interaction and building relationships with new brands, you just have to reach out to them and try.
